THE ORTHODOX RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND THE PEDAGOGICAL IMPORTANCE OF A RELIGION TEACHER

A religion teacher’s specific position is based on the mystery of human personality as revealed in the light of life in God and the community of the holy inside the Church. A natural frame of man’s education in the context of his God-likeness is the charismatic and sacramental experience of unity with Christ, which is the Church. Religious education as a school course and religion teachers as pedagogues and educators influence students’ moral and spiritual state and orientation. This is why the specific conditions of school life and teaching programs require that a religion teacher possess the ascetic gift of love and holiness in order to fulfill all the goals and tasks of religious education. Besides necessary competence for the teaching process and esteemed pedagogical service, personal holiness and the experience of grace represent a unique feature of a religion educator.
