The aim of this paper is to show possible ways of introducing new entities into written and spoken discourse and in a communication which is on the borderline between written and spoken. We will discuss the factors that cause certain ways of introducing new entities into these discourses. We believe that (un)familiarity of the entity, competence of the speaker and the hearer, and the aim of communication impact on the way reference is established and maintained.
